The Club

First and foremost, PP4WDC is a group of like-minded people and families of varying age who enjoy travelling, camping, and sharing a campfire in the great outdoors.

We don’t mind what you drive and we have just about every make of 4x4 from a Nissan X-Trail soft -roader to the more hardcore Nissan and Toyota off-roaders.  We like to keep formality and bureaucracy to a minimum so while we are active members of Four Wheel Drive Victoria (FWDVIC) and advocate responsible 4x4ing, the focus is primarily on enjoying our driving and camping.

A vast majority of our members are families and many of our younger members originally joined the Club as children of existing members and have become members in their own right.  We are not a Club of retirees but nor are we a “crash and bash get there at all costs” type Club.  Most trips are either weekend base camp with day trips or 4x4 touring trips.  We don’t like damaging vehicles but we do have the skills, equipment, and knowledge to tackle the hard tracks when necessary!

We have a number of resources available to members including two registered “Driver Trainers” and run formal driver training days, in a bush driving environment, as well as a range of equipment available for member use.  We also provide you the opportunity for involvement in the 4x4 community as we actively participate in FWDVIC track clearing, rubbish removal projects and are regular attendees at other FWDVIC meetings and projects.

PP4WDC provides opportunities for 4x4ers of all skill levels.  If you are already an experienced driver, you will find trips that will entertain and sometimes challenge you as well as give you an opportunity to educate and share your knowledge and experience with others.  If you are new to the 4x4 scene, you will find a welcoming environment with a group of experienced people willing to help and teach you on trips that will take you to places that only a 4x4 can go.  Formal driver training is encouraged but not compulsory.

What kind of trips and where do we go? Obviously, that varies from year to year and with the interests and passion of the individual trip leaders.  Typically, a year’s trip calendar would include:

  • Two Driver Training days usually based on the tracks in and around Erica, Gippsland;
  • Portland sand dunes, Discovery Bay National Park – the opportunity to drive on some huge sand dunes on the spectacular coastline West of Portland;
  • Several trips to the Victorian High Country and other iconic Victorian 4x4 destinations;
  • The Grampians for some day walks and relaxed camping;
  • At least one longer trip to areas such as far East Gippsland and often the opportunity to join other club members on 2-3 week (or longer) interstate trips;
  • Several social events – BBQ’s, breakfasts, beach days and an annual Christmas party.

How would we summarise PP4WDC?  Primarily we are a “people” club – a group of varying ages who enjoy sharing a day in our magnificent bush and an evening around the camp fire.  We don’t care what you drive as long as you enjoy the journey and respect the bush.  Children are very welcome.

What’s next?  Come along to a meeting to get a feel for who we are.  If you like what see and hear, join us on a trip as a guest to see how we operate.  If it feels right, apply for membership and join us on our many trips around our beautiful State and country.

The Club meets at 8:00pm on the second Tuesday of each month beginning in February of each year at:

The Old Dromana Shire Offices,
359A Point Nepean Rd.
Dromana VIC 3936.
